How does school-based online occupational therapy work?

Who conducts online occupational therapy?

Occupational Therapists and Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) have been providing live, online OT therapy services to students in the U.S. since the 1980s. They have the training and ability to work directly with students and their support academic teams, including teachers, special support providers, parents, and other caregivers. Our licensed OTs and COTAs are nationally certified as well as registered in Colorado. They have each worked in school settings for at least one year.

Just as in a traditional therapy setting, our online OTs:

  • Administer assessments
  • Write evaluations
  • Prepare IEPs and goals
  • Attend SPED, staff, and IEP meetings
  • Complete progress reports with documented data
  • Schedule students
  • Communicate with parents and staff

Occupational therapy sessions are provided in individual or small group settings either within or outside of the general education setting in accordance with each student’s 504 plan or IEP. Our online COTAs provide therapy services, attend meetings, and are supervised by our OTs.

Virtual TheraPeds provides school-based Occupational Therapy and can be treated by our online therapists to address the following areas:
