How does online speech therapy work?

Who conducts online speech therapy?

Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) provide online speech therapy and have the training and ability to work directly with students and their educational care teams. Our SLPs have master’s degrees, at least one year of experience in a school setting, and are ASHA accredited. SLPs have been providing virtual speech-language therapy for many years across the U.S. and in other countries for many years.

Just as in a traditional therapy setting, our online SLPs:

  • Administer assessments
  • Write evaluations
  • Prepare IEPs and goals
  • Serve as case managers
  • Attend IEP meetings
  • Complete progress reports with documented data
  • Schedule students
  • Communicate with parents and staff

Online speech therapy sessions are provided in individual, small group, or classroom settings either within or outside of the general education setting in accordance with each student’s 504 plan or IEP.

Virtual Therapeds provides Speech Therapy services through our online therapists to address the following areas:

  • Articulation
  • Fluency
  • Language Development
  • Social pragmatics
  • School-related communication skills

The online platform includes a variety of tools, such as interactive web pages or games, turn-taking and working with peers, engaging and fun games, written activities, and more.

Online Speech Therapy can take place in a variety of school settings, provided that students have access to:

  • A computer with a reliable Internet connection, speakers, and microphone
  • A built-in or external webcam
  • Access to materials:  paper, notebook, pencils, scissors, glue, tape, markers, crayons, dry erase boards, books, and more as needed
  • An adult or caregiver who can provide support with materials, task completion, or technical support when needed
  • Space for the student(s) to move around and be seen on the camera when needed
